Meeting the President of Zambia’s wife and styling BEN TV presenter …

Today I went to the ASAHCA (Association of Spouses of African High Commissioners and Ambassadors) Gala dinner which took place at the 5 star Royal Garden Hotel in high street Kensington. I went to style the evening’s presenter Janet Narh who is professional Radio and TV broadcaster, specialising in current affairs and topical issues. Janet trained as a lawyer, but after ten years moved into broadcasting, specialising in current affairs and news issues. She presents the Woman’s Hour slot on Ben Television, a satellite channel aimed at Africans in the UK, and also spends much of her time supporting and campaigning for women’s equality causes in Africa.

I styled Janet Narh with a fantastic selection of gorgeous jewellery pieces from 4 Season’s Shop ( www.4seasonsshop.co.uk ) . She looked absolutely amazing I must say! She wore a striking contemporary African Tribal ensemble by Zambian designer Brenda Mwangala.

I also bumped into the gorgeous Justina Mutale CEO of Perryfield Promotions Ltd.

On my table east Miss East Africa (current holder), BEN TV CEO, BEN Technical director, Latifah Jolie ( La Geneve North – www.lagenevenorth.co.uk ) and the talented African designer Brenda Mwangala.

The Zambian president’s wife, Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa, gave such a touching speech and lots of hope for the future of African women living in Africa.

I entered the evenings raffle. The prizes included 2 return tickets on Kenya Airways to any destination, dinner and bed and breakfast for 2 at the Royal Garden Hotel.

Overall it was a wonderful and entertaining evening.

1st day of Graduate Fashion Week !

Today was the first day of Graduate Fashion Week and looking at my diary for the week, most probably the only day I could attend.

I met up with Cliqisse (www.clicqisse.co.uk) director Daryl at the entrance area. I love trend spotting so was just simply fascinated by the way all these fashionistas had put their ensembles together.

A fashion show was commencing within 5 minutes of my arrival so I headed straight to the show entrance where I met and was introduced to the Chairman of Graduate Fashion Week, Terry Mansfield. We had a brief chat about projects I am currently working on as well as past projects. He then escorted us to the show which was for De Montfort University.

Other shows I watched that followed included Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and Winchester School of Art.

I also bumped into Naomi from Nolcha Metier, who was reviewing and covering features for the next Metier issue.

I collect vintage Chanel leather bags so when I spotted this lovely fashionista with her gorgeous Chanel bag, I just had to take a snap of her.

After one of the shows I bumped into this stylist (below pic) called Kaz (www.kazlonge.moonfruit.com ) who definitely stood out with her gorgeous combination of colours and matching headgear.

I couldn’t make it for the final show as I had to dash off but all in all I can say that some of the designs produced were beyond exceptional and I wish all the graduates the best of luck.

I thanked Terry and said my goodbyes to all.

Brick Lane: Week 2

This week was a busy one for me in Brick Lane. I hardly had a chance to leave my stall but eventually towards the end of the day dashed off to view all the exciting graduate fashion exhibitions taking place.

The first fashion exhibition I went to was just a few doors down from the Truman Brewery.

It consisted of a range of works by various fashion design and fashion PR students.

I then went to the Middlesex fashion design exhibition and was very impressed with the high standards of designs being created.

This week’s Brick Lane fashionista credit goes to this gorgeous (below) young lady who had a rock chic thing about her. I loved the hair I must say!!

The Evening:

In the evening I met up with a couple of my old college friends and went for a drink and catch-up in Islington.


Well time for a snooze cos tomorrow I’ll be at Graduate fashion week and need some form of beauty sleep (lol)

Fashions fade, style is eternal -Yves Saint Laurent

I thought I’d dedicate this blog to the amazing French designer Yves Saint Laurent who has died age 71.

At just 21 he was already the chief designer of the House of Dior, after that there was just no turning back for this young influential designer. I mean that is just amazing really, and reflects how much of an influential and innovative designer he was.

Even French President Sarkozy expressed the designer had been "the first to elevate haute couture to the rank of art and that gave him global influence".
From time the French President has time to make a quote like that about you just shows and says so much.

Pink LadiEs and MOrE

Yesterday was my first day at Truman Brewery market and the response to my cards was amazing. My boho chic card (below)appeared to be everyone’s favourite card which I was not expecting at all. I have also been commissioned to do a reproduction of a piece I done several years ago which I’m chuffed about!!! I guess its time for the Easel to come out once again :)

It was quite a windy day and guess what, I went and wore flip flops, what was I thinking??

I also went for a walk around the market and met so many other amazing designers and artists!! It was so great to be around a bunch of creative people.

Overall it was a fun yet tiring day :) I will be there again next Saturday so just say hi if you see me, I don’t bite…SEriouSly
